Minister for Education Norma Foley TD sends good wishes to Leaving Certificate and Junior Cycle Examination students

Minister for Education Norma Foley TD today, Monday 16 November, sent her best wishes to the 2,569 Leaving Certificate and 60 Junior Cycle candidates who have registered to sit these examinations. The first examinations begin today and conclude on Friday 11 December for the Leaving Certificate, with the Leaving Certificate Applied examinations finishing on Saturday 28 November. Examinations at Junior Cycle conclude on Monday 30 November.
Minister Foley said:
"I would like to wish all the very best to each candidate sitting these examinations over the coming weeks.
“This has been an unprecedented year and I would like to acknowledge the dedication shown by all of you during this challenging period.
"I know that this has been a long and arduous process for you and I hope that these exams go as well as you hope and are the culmination of all your extraordinary efforts.
“Thank you also to the principals, boards of management and school teams that are accommodating the running of these examinations. The effort of everyone to make sure that those sitting these examinations in these circumstances do so in a normal examination environment, in line with public health advice, is appreciated greatly."

These written examinations are being conducted with the support and assistance of post-primary schools and other venues recognised by the State Examinations Commission to hold the certificate examinations. Candidates will take their examinations in the school or other venue at which they were scheduled to sit the June 2020 examinations had those examinations proceeded.
Following the postponement of the Leaving Certificate examinations earlier this year students were given the option to choose to receive Calculated Grades and/or to sit written examinations at a time when it was considered safe to hold them.
Leaving Certificate candidates sitting the written examinations in November who opted to receive Calculated Grades will be credited with the higher subject grade achieved between the Calculated Grade and the written examination. These results will have the same status as the Leaving Certificate results for other years.
The opportunity to sit Junior Cycle examinations was offered to adult learners and early school leavers who were due to sit these examinations this year.
There will be one examination each weekday evening and two examination sessions at weekends, on both Saturdays and Sundays.
