Primary Schools
Daily Attendance Roll Book
The Daily Attendance Roll Book records the daily and cumulative attendance of individual pupils at primary level. The vast majority of primary schools now use an electronic version of the roll book and this eliminates the need for completion of a manual roll book. However, should a school wish to continue to use hard copies of roll books for recording the daily attendance of pupils (see Circular 0033/2015 ) they should send an email to: requestrollbooks@education.gov.ie
The following should be included in the email:
- School roll number, name, address, eircode and contact mobile number.
- Quantity of the roll book(s) required.
Daily Attendance Book records summary information in relation to daily, monthly and annual attendance of pupils (see Circular 0033/2015 ). The vast majority of primary schools use an electronic version for recording attendance of pupils and this eliminates the need for completion of a manual attendance book. For those small number of schools that do not use an electronic system they may download and complete the attached excel file: Daily Attendance Book. This document is not available in hard copy format from the Department.
Daily Attendance Book

In accordance with Circular 0028/2013, where a school uses an electronic system for recording attendance of pupils there is no requirement to also maintain the Daily Attendance Book. However, for schools who wish to continue to maintain this process, this document is available to download below:
Register
Register is a record of a schools registered pupil enrolments. Primary schools do not need to maintain the register in a hard format as this information is held in electronic format on POD. This is set out in Section 4 of Circular 0033/2015. (PDF, from page 3)
Post-primary
Post Primary Attendance Books
School Governance section provides schools with these books which are official records. These can be requested by emailing: requestrollbooks@education.gov.ie The following should be included in the email:
- school roll number, name, address, eircode and contact mobile number.
- quantity of the attendance book(s) required.
