Sick Leave Bill 2021

The Statutory Sick Leave Bill will provide for an entitlement to a minimum period of paid sick leave for all employees in the event that they fall ill or sustain an injury which prevents them from being able to work.

All employees will eventually be entitled to ten days, or two weeks, of sick pay per year. This will be in addition to any other leave such as annual leave, parental leave, or maternity or paternity leave. It’ll be for both full and part time employees. It will initially be paid at 70% of regular earnings up to €110 per day, from the first day of illness, and this can be varied by ministerial order.
