Minister Donohoe holds bilateral meeting with Swiss Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer

The Minister for Finance, Paschal Donohoe TD, met in Dublin today (Monday) with Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer, Head of the Federal Department of Finance in Switzerland, to discuss a range of issues.
Minister Donohoe and Federal Councillor Maurer took stock of the economic and fiscal dimensions of the Covid-19 situation, including the impact and the response measures in both countries and the Euro Area. The meeting also provided for the sharing of views on the economic outlook and recovery, and the opportunities and challenges ahead. There was a broad discussion on bilateral relations and international cooperation.
Minister Donohoe and Federal Councillor Maurer had a constructive dialogue on the ongoing discussions at the OECD on reframing the international tax architecture to address the challenges of digitalisation and globalisation. Minister Donohoe and Federal Councillor Maurer expressed their shared desire to reach a sustainable and equitable agreement at the OECD, an agreement that will provide the necessary certainty and stability to the international tax framework, and one which continues to support investment and economic growth which will be critical as we emerge from the Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking following the meeting, the Minister Donohoe, said:
“It is very welcome that Federal Councillor Maurer was able to visit Dublin today. It offered us an opportunity to discuss key issues of importance to both countries. It also highlighted the importance of engagement with our international partners as we work towards overcoming the pandemic and embedding a strong recovery for our societies and economies”.
