Tánaiste Simon Harris meets with Minister of the Economy, Finance, and Industrial, Energy, and Digital Sovereignty of France, Roland Lescure

The Tánaiste and Minister for Finance, Simon Harris, today (11 March) met with Minister of the Economy, Finance, and Industrial, Energy, and Digital Sovereignty of France, Roland Lescure, in Paris as part of his St. Patrick’s Day programme.

The Tánaiste and Minister Lescure had a wide-ranging and constructive discussion on a variety of issues including Franco-Irish bilateral relations, EU competitiveness - including how best to progress the Savings and Investmet Union (SIU) - increased energy prices and the upcoming Irish Presidency of the EU.

Speaking following the meeting, the Tánaiste said:

“I was pleased to meet with Minister Lescure today and reflect on the strong momentum in the economic and trading relationship between our two countries which is now over €45bn annually. The increase in connectivity and the growth in trade and investment between France and Ireland is a testament to this momentum.

“In the face of increasing uncertainty particularly when it comes to energy prices and supply, working with our EU partners on how best to address shared economic challenges is of paramount importance.

“In this context, I look forward to continued and close engagement with Minister Lescure ahead of our EU Presidency in the second half of this year.”
