Government approves the nomination of Ambassadors

On the recommendation of the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Micheál Martin, the government today approved 8 Ambassador nominations. These appointments will take place during 2024, subject to agreement by the receiving States.
Commenting on the nominations, the Tánaiste said:
“I am delighted to welcome these Ambassador nominations.
"I know that those nominated as Ambassadors will represent Ireland with great distinction as they work to support Irish citizens and to advance Ireland’s interests and values around the world.
"I am also happy that today’s announcement means that 55% of our diplomatic missions will be led by women. I am determined that we will make real progress on gender equality at home and abroad.”
Notes
All Ambassadorial level nominations are subject to the agreement of the receiving State and therefore in any reporting should be presented as nominations.
The Ambassadorial nominations approved by the government are as follows:
Multilateral
European Union
Ms Cáit Moran, currently Ambassador to the Political and Security Committee of the European Union, to be Ambassador/Deputy Permanent Representative to the European Union.
Mr Luke Feeney, currently Director Middle East and North Africa, to be Ambassador to the Political and Security Committee of the European Union.
Africa
Ethiopia
Ms Olivia Leslie, currently Director Asia Pacific, to be Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Observer to the African Union.
Malawi
Ms Kate Brady, currently Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Ireland to Malawi, to be Ambassador to Malawi.
Asia-Pacific
The Philippines
Ms Emma Hickey, currently Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Ireland to Egypt, to be Ambassador to the Philippines.
Europe
Austria
Ms Barbara Cullinane, currently Ambassador/Deputy Permanent Representative to the European Union, to be Ambassador to Austria.
Netherlands
Ms Ann Derwin, currently Ambassador to China, to be Ambassador to the Netherlands.
Türkiye
Ms Clare Brosnan, currently Director Disarmament & Non-Proliferation, to be Ambassador to Türkiye.
