Minister Byrne hosts Minister of European Affairs of North Macedonia

Minister of State for European Affairs and Defence, Thomas Byrne, today (3 July) hosted a meeting with the Minister of European Affairs of North Macedonia, Orhan Murtezani, at Iveagh House, in Dublin.

Their discussion focused on bilateral relations between Ireland and North Macedonia and with a particular focus on the EU accession journey of North Macedonia.

Minister Byrne commented: “The visit of Minister Murtezani to Dublin provided a welcome opportunity to discuss how we can enhance our bilateral relationship with North Macedonia, at a time when Ireland is ramping up its engagement in the region.”

Minister Byrne continued: “We need to maintain and build momentum on EU enlargement and I expect EU enlargement to be a key focus of our work during Ireland’s EU Presidency in 2026. Ireland is a strong supporter of EU enlargement and today’s meeting with Minister Murtezani allowed us to explore how Ireland can support North Macedonia on its EU path.”
