Minister Byrne to meet with EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos

Minister of State for European Affairs and Defence, Thomas Byrne TD, will today (22 October) meet with EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos. The meeting will focus on advancing EU enlargement during Ireland’s EU Presidency next year.

Speaking before the meeting, Minister Byrne said: “My meeting with Commissioner Kos is an important opportunity to discuss how Ireland can work with all partners to ensure that we utilise the opportunity of our Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2026 to progress EU enlargement.”

Minister Byrne continued: “EU enlargement is a geostrategic investment in a peaceful, secure and prosperous Europe. We look forward to using our EU Presidency to move forward individual candidacies.”
