Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Helen McEntee TD, has today launched the Statement of Strategy 2026-2029 for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. This Statement of Strategy sets out the department’s core priorities for the next three years across six high-level goals.
Speaking on the new Statement of Strategy, Minister McEntee said: “I am pleased to publish the new Statement of Strategy for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. It sets out the strategic direction for the department and what we want to achieve in the years ahead.
“The Statement of Strategy reflects our core priorities, including peace and reconciliation on the island of Ireland, the provision of first class consular and passport services to our citizens and support for our diaspora communities. Deepening our influence at EU level will also be a key focus, including through the delivery of a successful EU Presidency term later this year. We will work to enhance our global engagement and drive trade and prosperity, including through our network of now 107 diplomatic missions.
“In an increasingly challenging international environment, we will protect the multilateral system and the international legal order and promote our values and interests. In line with this commitment, we will continue to stand in support of Ukraine and demonstrate continued leadership in support of peace and security in the Middle East.
“I look forward to working with Minister of State Neale Richmond TD and Minister of State Thomas Byrne TD, as well as all staff in the Department to deliver on these priorities over the next three years.”
