Minister McEntee welcomes Acting First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of Kosovo, Glauk Konjufca to Dublin

This afternoon (5 May), Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade and Defence, Helen McEntee TD, hosted Acting First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of Kosovo, Glauk Konjufca, for a working lunch in Iveagh House in Dublin.

Speaking after the meeting, Minister McEntee said: “As Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union approaches, I welcome this opportunity to meet with Acting Minister Konjufca. As one of the first EU Member States to recognise its independence, Ireland values greatly our relationship with Kosovo. We had good discussions as to how we can further deepen our cooperation.”

“At a political level, our engagement has never been stronger. Just yesterday, the Taoiseach met with Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti on the margins of the European Political Community (EPC) in Yerevan, Armenia, where they had a positive exchange”.

Minister McEntee discussed the recent political developments in Kosovo with Acting Minister Konjufca, as well as the country’s future EU perspective. Minister McEntee affirmed: “Progressing EU enlargement will be at the centre of our Presidency. Ireland remains a strong supporter of Kosovo’s path to EU accession, as well as its membership bid for the Council of Europe. I hope that Kosovo will see greater political certainty in the period ahead, which is essential for meaningful progress”.
