Assigned responsibility for the direction and management of a Unit in the Legal Division that:
- Provides legal advice and assistance to a number of Divisions and Units of the Department including in respect of international security policy, disarmament and non-proliferation, consular matters, diplomatic relations, immunities and privileges, law of the sea (marine biodiversity), UN human rights, Council of Europe and OSCE
- Acts as agent of the Government in proceedings before the European Court of Human Rights, and provides a similar service in relation to complaints brought before the European Committee on Social Rights and UN Treaty Monitoring Bodies;
- Represents Ireland at meetings in the UN, the Council of Europe, the EU and other international organisations and legal fora.
