2024 report
This report covers the period 1 January 2024 to 31 December 2024.
As a public body, the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science (DFHERIS) is required under Section 22 of the Protected Disclosures Act 2014 (as amended) (the Act) to publish an annual report, by 31 March each year, outlining the number of protected disclosures received in the preceding year, and the action taken.
The Act requires every public body to establish and maintain procedures for dealing with protected disclosures. As such, DFHERIS has structures, processes and procedures in place for the receipt of both internal and external protected disclosures.
Internal protected disclosures are reports made by current or former DFHERIS staff members that relate to potential wrongdoing, occurring within DFHERIS, which came to their attention in the course of their work. Internal disclosures can be made verbally or in writing, through line management or to DFHERIS’s Protected Disclosures Group.
External protected disclosures are reports made by workers who are employed by a business, individual or organisation, other than DFHERIS, that contain information about potential wrongdoings. DFHERIS’s Protected Disclosure Coordinator is a prescribed person under the Act to receive such information. This report has been compiled on the basis that it does not result in the identification of any person(s) who have made disclosures.
2023 report
Annual report of the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science for 2023 in accordance with Section 22 of the Protected Disclosures Act 2014.
Under Section 22 of the Protected Disclosures Act, 2014 (as amended by the Protected Disclosures (Amendment) Act 2022) each public body is required to publish an annual report setting out the number of protected disclosures received in the preceding year and the action taken (if any). This report must not result in persons making disclosures being identifiable.
The Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science confirms that it has internal and external reporting channels and procedures in place.

Two protected disclosures were made to the Minister in 2022 under Section 8 of the Protected Disclosures Act, 2014. One disclosure has been closed and the other disclosure is ongoing.
No protected disclosures were received from workers of the Department in the period covered by this report.
