Biography

Mary Codd

Mary Codd graduated in medicine from University College Dublin. Following internal medicine residency in Dublin and London, she studied epidemiology and biostatistics to doctoral level at the Mayo Clinic and University of Minnesota School of Public Health, USA.

Mary is Associate Professor of epidemiology and biostatistics at UCD. A fellow of the Faculty of Public Health Medicine in Ireland and of the Royal Statistical Society, UK, she is Director of the MPH programme at UCD and teaches epidemiology, biostatistics, applied research methods, data management and computational methods from undergraduate to postdoctoral levels.

In 2017 she received the international Universitas 21 Health Sciences Group Teaching Excellence Award. Mary was Project Coordinator of the Eccles Breast Screening Programme, the first population-based screening programme in Ireland, a constituent project of the ‘European Against Cancer’ Screening Network and the foundation upon which BreastCheck was established. She was co-author of European Guidelines for Quality Assurance in Mammographic Screening, 2nd and 3rd Editions and external reviewer with EUREF (European Reference Centre for Breast Screening).

She has engaged in collaborative research on screening with partners in Sweden, Italy and Portugal, and with the International Breast Screening Network at NIH, USA. She has published over 250 scientific publications.
