Biography

Professor Maeve Eogan

Professor Eogan is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the Rotunda Hospital, the longest established and busiest maternity hospital in Ireland. She is also the HSE national clinical lead for Sexual Assault Treatment Unit (SATU) services and is an honorary clinical associate Professor in both RCSI and UCD. Prof Eogan’s special interests are health promotion in pregnancy, inclusion health, optimising access to responsive healthcare, prevention and management of pelvic floor issues after birth and provision of care for people who have experienced sexual violence.

As an advocate for appropriate, safe and resourced health screening, she has followed the work of this national committee since it was established.

Prof Eogan has many years’ experience of critically evaluating data to inform not just guideline & service development, but also individual & population healthcare as appropriate. She has a sustained involvement in clinical audit, research and preparation of annual reports of service activity. She is a co-author of a number of clinical guidelines including the (HSE/IOG) National Clinical Practice Guideline on Prevention of Early Onset Group B Streptococcal Disease in Term Infants and multiagency national guidelines on Referral and Forensic Clinical Examination Following Rape and Sexual Assault.
