Appointment to the Health Products Regulatory Authority Board - 14 October 2022

The Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has, following a Public Appointments Service campaign, appointed Fiona Kiernan to the board of the Health Products Regulatory Authority with effect from 12 September 2022 to 31 December 2026.

Fiona Kiernan

Fiona Kiernan, is both a clinician and economist. Along with her medical degree from University College Dublin, she also holds a master’s in health economics, Policy & Management from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a PhD in Economics from University College Dublin.

Fiona practised medicine for sixteen years, including seven years as a consultant in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine in Beaumont Hospital. As an economist she has worked with the Healthcare Pricing Office of the HSE, and as founder and CEO of a digital health startup, Zeumed. Her interests include the role of AI in designing care pathways that optimise patient outcomes and reduce societal costs. She was previously a Board Member of the State Board of the Health Insurance Authority from 2015 to 2021.
