Appointments to St. James’s Hospital Board

The Minister for Health, Simon Harris TD, has appointed/re-appointed the following as members of St. James’s Hospital Board:
Mr Brian Murray
As a former CEO of the Dublin Dental University Hospital for almost 20 years (to 2011), Mr Murray has experience of strategic planning, development and implementation; the planning and development of physical infrastructure; all operational management of a hospital service, including human resources, finance, corporate governance; patient services; and the planning and implementation of ICT systems. That position required interaction with government departments of Health and Education, HSE, Universities, Statutory Agencies and other hospitals.
Over many years Mr Murray has acquired the skills necessary to engage with colleagues on various Boards in the health and education spheres to plan and deliver services through chairing or participation in Board committees such as finance audit education and research.
Mr Murray has served on several Boards and is currently on the Board of Our Lady’s Hospice and Care Services, Harold’s Cross and Blackrock. Mr. Murray is re-appointed from 24th April 2019 to 23rd April 2025 following nomination by the Chairperson of St. James Hospital Board.
Mr Martin Keane
Chartered Accountant – Financial & Business Consultant
Mr Martin Keane was a former – Director of Corporate Services and Head of Corporate Finance (1988-2004) in Ernst & Young Chartered Accountants.
Mr Keane’s main area of expertise is in the financial area. Core skills are in the finance area, mainly in the area of mergers and acquisitions, but also covering financing as well as corporate strategy and business development.
Mr Keane has worked in an advisory capacity in most business sectors in Ireland. Has been involved in planning, and in particular financial planning, in a range of organisations in the context of major capital expenditures, acquisitions and restructuring – in addition to the normal annual budgeting and planning.
Mr. Keane is reappointed from 28th March 2019 to 27th March 2025 following nomination by the Chairperson of St. James Hospital Board.
Michael Gleeson
Michael Gleeson, BA, MSc(Mgmt.) was Secretary to the College, Trinity College, Dublin, 1990-2008, and Director of Strategic Initiatives there, 2008-2011.
He has a wide range of experience in Corporate Governance, Strategic, Planning, Risk Management and Mediation.
He is Chair of the Trustee Board of the Marino Institute of Education, and the Foundation Board of the RDS. He is a member of the Board of the Glasnevin Trust, a School Governor Fellow, and a Pensions Trustee.
Catherine Mullarkey
Catherine is a self-employed property investor, developer and asset manager. Prior to 2005, she worked in financial services in Dublin primarily involved in commercial lending with both Anglo Irish Bank and KBC and has significant experience in the structuring and negotiation of large scale property transactions.
She served as a non-executive director with the Dublin Docklands Development Agency from June 2007 to 2012 and was a member of the Audit, Finance and Risk committee and chair of the Arts and Culture committee.
She joined the board of The Community Foundation for Ireland in 2017 as a non-executive director. CFI is one of the largest philanthropic organisations in Ireland which facilitates strategic giving through the provision of donor services and invests back into the community. It funds projects that address the issues faced in many areas, education, children and youth, homelessness and domestic violence to name a few.
She is a Director of “Follow Your Dream Company Limited by Guarantee” a charity based in Clondalkin which supports children to achieve their dreams and goals. She has served as company secretary since it was established in 1999.
She graduated with a bachelor of Commerce in 1988 from UCD. She subsequently qualified as a certified accountant (ACCA) in 1992. In 2017 she completed the Certificate and Diploma in Company Direction with the Institute of Directors Chartered Director program with a view to taking up a number of non-executive positions.
She is very involved in her local community, holding a number of positions in voluntary and sporting organisations. She believes we all have a responsibility to give back to the community when and where we can.
