Appointments to St. James’s Hospital Board – September 2019

The Minister for Health, Simon Harris TD, has re-appointed Professor Charles Normand and Appointed Professor Juliette Hussey as members of St. James’s Hospital Board on the nomination of the University of Dublin. These appointments are for the period from 27th September 2019 to 26th September 2025.

Professor Juliette Hussey

Juliette Hussey is a Professor in Physiotherapy in the School of Medicine and currently is the Vice President for Global Relations. She received her MSc from Kings College London and her PhD from Trinity. She has been in Trinity since 1992 and served as head of discipline of Physiotherapy for 11 years. She was elected to fellowship in 2011. Her research focuses on evaluating exercise interventions aimed at increasing physical performance in patients undergoing treatment for cancer. She has supervised 30 post graduate students to completion and has published over 75 papers.

Professor Charles Normand

Charles Normand is Professor of Health Policy and Management at Trinity College Dublin and Professor of the Economics of Palliative Care and Rehabilitation at the Cicely Saunders Institute at King’s College London. He has worked for nearly 40 years on economic aspects of health, including work on cancer screening and treatment, evaluation of health technologies, health care finance, health care human resources and measurement of efficiency in health care. Much of his recent work has focussed on the implications of population ageing on health and social care and on palliative care. He has published over 200 journal articles in scientific journals and is a co-author on a bestselling textbook on health economics. He is a member of the Health Research Board and is on the Steering Committee of the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies.
