Appointments/reappointments to the Council of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland


The Minister for Health, Jennifer Carroll MacNeill TD, has appointed/reappointed the following members to the Council of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland with effect from 21 June 2025 until 20 June 2029.

Mr. Leon O'Hagan

Mr. O’Hagan is a qualified Independent Prescriber and has worked in hospital, community, and primary care pharmacy in Ireland, England, and Australia. He holds a post graduate diploma in Healthcare Innovation from Trinity College Dublin and currently works as a senior Informatics Pharmacist at the Rotunda Maternity Hospital in Dublin. Previously, he has worked as a HSE Senior Pharmacist on the iSimpathy project, helping integrate pharmacists into primary care teams to conduct comprehensive and patient-centred polypharmacy reviews. He was a regional officer and organiser for the Pharmacists' Defence Association Union (PDAU) in Northern Ireland.

Mr. Leon O'Hagan has been elected to the Council by PSI registered Pharmacists.

Ms. Margaret Sarah Donnelly

Since graduating from Trinity College Dublin (TCD) and Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), Ms. Donnelly has held pharmacist roles in both community and hospital practice. She holds a M.Sc. in Clinical Pharmacy from Robert Gordon University, and a PgDip in Health Professions Education from RCSI. She currently works as a community antimicrobial stewardship pharmacist, and teaches in the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences in RCSI.

Ms. Margaret Sarah Donnelly has been elected to the Council by PSI registered Pharmacists.

Prof. John Given

Prof. Given is Adjunct Professor in the College of Medicine, Nursing, and Health Sciences, in the University of Galway. He holds a B.Sc. Biochemistry from the University of Galway, and a B.Sc. in pharmacy from Strathclyde University, Glasgow. He works as the Head of Pharmacy for Galway University Hospital, and Merlin Park Hospital. He has completed a master's in clinical research and holds a diploma in public procurement law. This is his second term as a pharmacist member of the PSI Council.

Prof. John Given has been re-appointed and elected to the Council by PSI registered Pharmacists.

Ms. Áine Mac Grory

Ms. Mac Grory has 20 years of experience in the community pharmacy sector, gained through a variety of roles in both Ireland and the UK. She is the owner and Superintendent Pharmacist of Rathfarnham Pharmacy. Áine has actively contributed to professional development initiatives, including the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland’s Core Competency Framework Review, and the Irish Pharmacy Union’s Employee-Employer Forum. She holds an MPharm (2013), awarded for research that focused on barriers to the implementation of public health initiatives at a primary care level.

Ms. Áine Mac Grory has been elected to the Council by PSI registered Pharmacists.

Mr. Nigel Moloney

Mr. Moloney graduated as a pharmacist from Brighton University in 1999 and started his career as a clinical pharmacist in University Hospital Southampton in the UK. Whilst working for the NHS, he continued postgraduate studies in clinical pharmacy (PgC), and pharmacy practice & policy (PgDip), at University College London (UCL). He is currently co-owner of four retail pharmacy businesses and is the Superintendent Pharmacist for three of them.

Gráinne Power

Gráinne Power is the Director of Compliance at the Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA) in Ireland, responsible for various licensing, inspection, market surveillance and enforcement activities relating to medicinal products, blood, tissues and cells and cosmetics. She joined the HPRA in 2018, initially leading the Human Products Authorisation and Registration Department, where she was responsible for the authorisation and registration of human medicines and clinical trials in the Irish market.

Gráinne holds a degree in Biotechnology from Dublin City University and has over 25 years of experience in quality leadership roles within the Irish pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical manufacturing sectors prior to her work at HPRA

In addition to her role at HPRA, she has served on the Council of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI) as the HPRA nominee since 2021.

Gráinne Power has been re-appointed following nomination by the Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA).
