Following a Public Jobs campaign & with the approval of the Central Bank of Ireland, the Minister for Health, Jennifer Carroll MacNeill, has appointed the following as a member of the VHI Board with effect from 05/05/2026 to 05/05/2031

Dr. Thomas Willkinson

Thomas is an experienced CEO and Board Director with over 25 years’ experience across international health insurance, financial services and technology. His expertise spans strategy, transformation, governance, risk and international operations, developed through senior leadership roles across organisations including AXA, Credit Suisse/Winterthur and IBM. As CEO of AXA Global Healthcare, he led the creation and growth of a global business serving customers in over 190 countries. Thomas has extensive Board and regulatory experience, having established and chaired multiple regulated entities across Europe and Asia, working with regulators including the Central Bank of Ireland, FCA and PRA. He is also the founder of Mountain Coach Ltd.
