Reappointment of Professor Bernard McCartan as Chair of the Health and Social Care Professionals Council (HSCPC)

The Minister for Health, Simon Harris TD, has re-appointed Professor Bernard McCartan as Chair of the Health and Social Care Professionals Council (HSCPC).

This re-appointment is for a three-year period with effect from 17 August 2019.

Professor Bernard McCartan

Professor McCartan has extensive experience in regulation and fitness to practise, having been President of the Dental Council and a member of its Fitness to Practise Committee, and Chair of the Professional Conduct Committee of the Pharmaceutical Society. He was first appointed to the Health and Social Care Professionals Council in June 2014 on the nomination of the Minister for Education and Skills.

A former academic in Trinity College Dublin and a former Director of Specialist Training in Dentistry in the RCSI, he was previously Consultant in Oral Medicine in the Dublin Dental Hospital, Hume Street Hospital and the Blackrock Clinic. He also served three terms as President of the Irish Federation of University Teachers.
