Reappointment to Tallaght University Hospital Board

Following nomination by the Meath Foundation, the Meath Foundation has reappointed Dr Martin Lyes to Tallaght University Hospital Board with effect from 1 January 2026 until 31 December 2028.
Dr Martin Lyes
Dr Martin Lyes acts as a consultant on innovation and has worked for the European Commission on a number of project and programme evaluations. As well as advising a number of start-ups, he has also undertaken assignments on research and innovation for Government organisations in Abu Dhabi and Kuwait.
Starting with an Honours degree from the University of London and a Doctorate in Oceanography from Southampton University, his early career was in research, followed by a move to the public sector where he worked initially on research programme management. He subsequently held senior management roles in the public sector and developed extensive experience of leading large teams in the delivery of national research and innovation programmes. Most recently, he was Divisional Manager for Research & Innovation with Enterprise Ireland with responsibilities including funding for the commercialisation of research, R&D collaboration, the construction and running of college-based incubators and support for the creation of industry clusters.
His responsibilities also covered international collaboration, including Irish participation in EU Framework Programmes and the European Space Agency. As part of these international activities, he acted as Chair of the European Association of Innovation Agencies, a Governor of the European Science Foundation, Member of the Swedish Panel on Strategic Research Priorities and as national delegate on a range of EU Framework programmes.
He has been active in support of not-for-profit organisations, including spending six years as a Director and Chair of St Michael's House, a Section 38 organisation which provides services to over 1900 people with intellectual disability. He is currently a trustee of the Meath Foundation and the Carmichael Centre for Voluntary Groups and recently was awarded a Masters degree in Applied Ethics.
Dr. Lyes has been a Board member of Tallaght University Hospital for the last three years and Chair's its Research & Innovation Committee.
