Acute Care Division

The Acute Care Division is responsible for developing and overseeing implementation of policy and performance oversight in relation to acute hospital services nationally.

This includes:

  • hospital groups and the smaller hospitals framework
  • policy on scheduled and unscheduled care and acute model of care
  • national trauma system
  • the new children’s hospital and paediatric model of care
  • maternity services
  • pre-hospital emergency care
  • cancer services
  • organ donation and transplantation services
  • blood and tissue services
  • patient safety and quality in acute hospitals
  • North-South co-operation
