Nursing/Midwifery, Mental Health, Drugs Policy and Social Inclusion Division

The Nursing/Midwifery, Mental Health, Drug Policy and Social Inclusion Division is responsible for:

  • developing and overseeing implementation of policy in relation to the nursing and midwifery profession
  • providing strategic leadership and expert nursing and midwifery advice to the department, government, broader health system and regulatory and professional bodies
  • developing and implementing mental health policy and ensuring an appropriate Mental Health Legal Framework is in place
  • overseeing implementation of A Vision for Change in conjunction with the HSE and government departments
  • implementation of Connecting for Life – Suicide Prevention Strategy 2015-2020
  • overseeing implementation of Reducing Harm Supporting Recovery: A health-led approach to drug and alcohol use in Ireland
  • managing and overseeing the Department of Health's input into national policies to address social inclusion and overseeing the implementation of the health actions on Rebuilding Ireland in order to provide person-centred health services for homeless people
