Protecting Personal Data

The Department of Health's Privacy Notice contains information which is applicable to all department customers.


Subject Access Request (SAR)

Individuals have the right under the GDPR to access a copy of their own information. To obtain a copy of your personal data processed by the Department of Health, please contact us at dpo@health.gov.ie. The information requested will be provided within one month from the date of receipt of the request by the Department. If further identifying details or additional context is required to determine where records may be held, the Data Protection Unit will contact you to establish this. There are a small number of circumstances in which the right to access personal data may be limited.

Medical Information & Patient Data

To access your health or medical records please contact the relevant organisation or your healthcare provider for e.g. HSE, medical centre, hospital, general practitioner surgery.

Access to Institutional Related Records (AIRR) - To apply for access to records of historical childcare and institutional care, you can submit a request to rmunit@health.gov.ie . The website birthinfo.ie may also be able to assist you further.
