General Scheme of the Health (Exemption for Children from Public In-Patient Charges) Bill 2022

The Bill proposes to abolish acute public in-patient charges for children under 16. Primary legislation is required to amend the Health Act 1970 to abolish the public in-patient charge for children under 16 years of age.

The proposed amendments will remove the acute public in-patient charge of €80 per day, up to a maximum of €800 in a year, for children less than 16 years of age in all public hospitals.
