Principal Officer, Internal Audit

Responsibility at Principal Officer level for the operation of the Department’s Internal Audit Function. Internal Audit Unit, (IAU), is an independent appraisal function which provides independent and objective assurance to the Secretary General/Accounting Officer, Management and the Audit Committee, that the systems, processes, and procedures that underpin the Department’s operational activities are properly, efficiently, and effectively managed, or otherwise to recommend appropriate corrective action. The Department’s IAU governs itself by adherence to the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors, (CIIA’s), mandatory guidance, which includes the Core Principles for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing, the Code of Ethics, and the relevant International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing which were adopted by DPENDR in 2012, and last updated in 2018. (The Internal Audit Standards for Government Departments and Offices refer).
