Role

Principal Officer, Medicines, Controlled Drugs and Pharmacy Regulation

Responsibility at Principal level for management and delivery of the:

  • Development and implementation of policy and legislation, at national and EU level, with regard to: medicinal products, medical devices, controlled drugs, cannabis, cosmetics, and clinical trials, pharmacists and pharmacies;
  • Development and implementation of pharmacy policy;
  • Control of drugs in accordance with national policy and international conventions;
  • Provision of pharmacist expert advice within Department;
  • Management of various issues relating to Medicines and Medical Device e.g. medicines shortages and supplies, Brexit implications, safety notifications, Covid pandemic, falsified medicines.
  • Governance oversight of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI) and the Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA).
