Responsibility at Principal level for leading and effectively managing North-South, EU and International Unit. The Unit is responsible for promoting and protecting Ireland's interests at EU and international level and coordinating Ireland-UK work in conjunction with line units. The Unit is divided into three teams:
- EU & Bilateral team which promotes and protects Ireland's health interests at EU level and through bilateral relations with other countries;
- North South & UK team which is responsible for (i) ensuring that the longstanding North-South cooperation on healthcare continues and is broadened in scope and (ii) overseeing the coordination, and strengthening, of the health sectors' overall engagement on an East West basis;
- WHO & International team which promotes, represents, and advances Ireland's health-related interests within the WHO, UN, and other multilateral organisations at both Regional and Global level and supports collaboration with other countries in health-related areas of common interest.
The Unit has an expanding programme of work corresponding with the growing international health agenda and is involved in the cross-departmental work to plan the design and implementation of Ireland’s Health Agenda for our term as the EU Presidency in 2026.
