Public Consultation on the Draft Heritage Ireland 2030 Mid-Term Review (2026)

Consultation is open

Why We Are Launching a Public Consultation

The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage is carrying out a mid-term review Heritage Ireland 2030, as promised in the strategy.

Heritage Ireland 2030 is Ireland’s national heritage plan. It is built on foundations that place heritage firmly at the centre of local and national spaces, places, stories and society. Under its three core themes of ‘Communities’, ‘Leadership’ and ‘Partnerships’, it sets out a shared set of goals to strengthen and protect Ireland’s heritage now and for the future.

The mid-term review of Heritage Ireland 2030 aims to ensure that the strategy, its goals, and the actions in its action plan are still relevant. The review process involved taking stock of changes since Heritage Ireland 2030 was published in 2022. It also involved taking stock of achievements across the sector since that time. We also looked ahead to see what priorities and issues for heritage may shape the roll-out of Heritage Ireland 2030 over its lifetime and beyond.

This public consultation on the results of the mid-term review is the final stage of the Heritage Ireland 2030 review process. We’ll use insights and information from the public consultation to develop a final version of the Heritage Ireland 2030 Mid-Term Review.

Once published, the final Heritage Ireland 2030 Mid-Term Review document will sit alongside and will be read together with the strategy. It will form the basis for annual reporting through its refreshed action plan. It will support and drive continued action under Heritage Ireland 2030 to strengthen, protect and celebrate heritage to the end of the decade and far beyond.
