Minister Browne promotes potential of Ireland at major international property investment event

Minister leads Irish delegation at MIPIM 2026 to promote Ireland as an attractive destination for investment to support the supply of new homes across the country

Engaging domestic and international capital for the development of new housing is a key priority in the new Housing Action Plan Delivering Homes, Building Communities 2025-2030

The Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne TD, leading an Ireland presence at MIPIM (Marché International des Professionels de l'Immoblier) 2026, today addressed attendees at the event and emphasised that Ireland is open for business as an attractive venue for investment in new homes.

With an estimated €20 billion per year in development finance required to deliver at least 300,000 new homes by 2030, and strong international competition for private investment, Ireland at MIPIM 2026 is an important opportunity for Ireland to promote itself as an investment destination for residential and related development.

Speaking today, Minister Browne explained to delegates:

“As set out in Ireland’s recently published five year national housing plan, ‘Delivering Homes, Building Communities’ the Irish Government is committed to delivering 300,000 new homes by 2030, including 72,000 social homes and 90,000 Starter Homes. This is a floor, not a ceiling.

“Promoting affordable homeownership, protecting renters and improving affordability for buyers and renters is a key priority in Ireland’s new Plan and for this Government. To achieve this increased supply, we need to partner with private capital to deliver housing of all types and tenures.

“International events like MIPIM are a specific action for us in driving that priority. This is a very timely and important engagement for us.

“The strong fundamentals of the Irish economy give us confidence that there is a bright future for a collaborative approach to scaling up the delivery of housing, public and private. We have ready and able partners in the development and investment space, who are looking to scale up.

“Our focus is on engaging with stakeholders on their experience within this operating environment and ensuring it is working. In short, we are in this for the long-term. We are looking forward to working with partners for sustainable housing supply in Ireland.”

Marché International des Professionels de l'Immoblier is recognised as one of the most important conferences for international property investors, attracting over 20,000 delegates and €4 trillion in assets under management. It presents a very significant opportunity for Ireland to attract private investment to support the supply of new homes across the country.

MIPIM 2026 is taking place in Cannes, France from today (March 9th) to March 12th. Attendees include property investors, funders, developers, industry advisers and consultants, senior politicians, mayors, officials and policy advisors from around the globe.

Ireland at MIPIM 2026 centres on an ‘Ireland’ pavilion at the conference which is hosting a programme of panel discussions and information sessions to highlight the operational environment and growth potential for residential development in Ireland.

The organisation of the Ireland Pavilion is being overseen by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage (DHLGH), working closely with the Department of Finance (DoF), the Irish Strategic Investment Fund (ISIF) and the Housing Agency together with private sector partners via coordination through key representative bodies, Irish Institutional Property (IIP) and Property Industry Ireland (PII). A number of organisations across the banking, property development and professional services sectors are providing support and sponsorship to Ireland at MIPIM 2026.
