Initiative is clear example of the ambition and leadership required to accelerate housing delivery
Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne TD today welcomed Dublin City Council’s announcement of a major new Home Building Programme that will see approximately 4,000 homes delivered across more than 30 sites in the city over the next four years.
He highlighted the initiative as a clear example of the ambition and leadership required to accelerate housing delivery. Funding for the programme is being provided by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
Minister Browne said:
"I warmly welcome Dublin City Council’s launch of this ambitious Home Building Programme. Delivering 4,000 new homes across more than 30 sites is a powerful demonstration of what determined local leadership can achieve.
“I have always backed ambitious local authorities that step up to drive housing delivery, and Dublin City Council is showing exactly the kind of vision and commitment needed to meet the scale of the challenge.
“By unlocking the potential of council‑owned land and working collaboratively with partners, this programme will help ensure that more homes are delivered for the people who need them.”
The Dublin City Council Home Building Programme will underpin the Council’s delivery of new social and affordable homes between 2026 and 2030, contributing significantly to the Government’s national housing plan, Delivering Homes, Building Communities.
The programme will see Dublin City Council advance a range of council-owned housing sites, primarily through a Design & Build (D&B) delivery model. Dublin City Council is being supported by the National Development Finance Agency (NDFA). Housing contractors are encouraged to participate in this programme and work with Dublin City Council to deliver homes at scale and pace.
