Minister Browne welcomes go-ahead for almost 1,000 Dundrum homes

Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne TD, has welcomed An Coimisiún Pleanála’s decision to approve planning permission for close to 1,000 new social and affordable purchase homes in Dundrum, saying the news will is essential for the delivery of large scale, State-led housing on public land.

The development will comprise a mix of 934 housing options including apartments, duplexes and houses on the site of the former Central Mental Hospital.

Minister James Browne TD emphasised:

“This represents a major step forward in a long anticipated project that will bring much needed affordable housing to an area of high demand in Dublin City.

“Since its establishment, the LDA has consistently demonstrated its ability to deliver affordable, high quality homes on public land, as evidenced by several large-scale projects, including the landmark Shanganagh development, also in Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown. I want projects like this to proceed at pace, and at scale. We are driving on.

“Under our Housing Action Plan ‘Delivering Homes, Building Communities’ we have committed €2.5bn in new equity capital and expanded the LDA’s role enabling them to ramp up delivery of affordable and social housing and further strengthen our housing pipeline and land portfolio.

“I look forward to working with the LDA and Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Council as this development progresses and as we continue to advance large scale, State led delivery on well-located public sites.

“I am backing ambition here - these homes are essential in responding to our housing crisis.”
