Minister Browne welcomes Partnership Agreement on Dolphin House Estate Regeneration Project

Phases 2 and 3 of the regeneration project will deliver over 600 social and affordable homes

Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne TD, has welcomed this morning's announcement that Dublin City Council (DCC) and the Land Development Agency (LDA) have entered into a partnership to develop Phases 2 and 3 of the Dolphin House Estate Regeneration Project – a major residential construction project in the heart of Dublin City.

Phases 2 and 3 will deliver over 600 social and affordable homes and mark the completion of the Dolphin House Estate Regeneration Project, which will replace existing homes with new high-quality, energy efficient apartments and houses for both current and future residents.

Dolphin House Estate was built in the 1950s and is the largest flat complex in Dublin. The regeneration project has engaged extensively with local residents and stakeholders with an aim to redevelop the community and address issues such as poor living conditions and antisocial behaviour that locals say have crept in over the years.

Minister Browne commented:

"I warmly welcome today's announcement from Dublin City Council and the Land Development Agency confirming their agreement to enter into partnership to advance this vital regeneration project in the heart of our capital city. It has been a long journey, but through extensive engagement with local residents and stakeholders, we can now look together towards a brighter future for this proud community.

"My Department is happy to confirm Approval in Principle for the project to now proceed to the detailed design and planning stage. I know that DCC and the LDA have worked well together on several projects in the past and they will no doubt bring their experience and expertise to bear on this project also.

"Dolphin House Estate was built in the 1950s at a time when public housing projects were being trialled throughout Europe and beyond, but a lot has changed since then. While the scale and ambition of these projects during that particular era was to be admired, it is important that we learn from the mistakes of the past and strive to be best in class in terms of the homes and communities that we build today. The Dolphin House Estate Regeneration Project will replace existing homes with new high-quality, energy efficient apartments and houses alongside all of the necessary amenities to provide a vibrant community for both current and future residents."
