Monthly Commencement Data for May 2023 published

The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage has published its monthly data on the number of Commencements Notices (residential construction starts) for May 2023.
The data show Commencement Notices for 3,059 new homes were received by Building Control Authorities in May 2023. This is an increase of 11.4% on the number of new homes commenced in the same month last year (2,746 units).
The strong uptick in commencements in Q4 2022 and Q1 2023 has continued into Q2 2023. 12,987 homes have been commenced in the first five months of 2023. This is a 7.4% increase on the same period last year and a record when compared to similar periods since the data series began in 2015.
