Good governance in the public sector is about delivering priorities, achieving objectives, behaving with integrity, and acting in the public interest and in ways that are consistent with legal, regulatory and government policy obligations.
A new code of governance for local authorities has been developed. Built on seven governance principles, this Local Government Code of Governance reflects local authorities’ specific needs, recognises their independent statutory basis and distinctive governance structures, and their compliance with statutory obligations and regulatory requirements.
