Competition for EU Presidency Interns

The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage is inviting applications for temporary positions as Interns in a number of the Department’s Units dealing with EU and International issues under the Departments remit.

Ireland’s EU Presidency in the second six months of 2026 is a priority for the Government. The Presidency provides a unique opportunity for Ireland to play a key role in EU affairs and in advancing policy at the European Union and United Nations levels. While the Presidency’s thematic priorities have not yet been finalised, the Department has a range of EU related areas within its remit in areas including nature protection, water, housing and planning. Department officials will work closely with other Departments and Agencies, as well as Ireland’s Permanent Representation to the EU in Brussels.

These temporary positions will be for a period of between 9-12 months, with the first placements starting in spring 2026.
