Expanding the Ready to Build Scheme

The Ready to Build Scheme helps people build their own homes in towns and villages by providing serviced sites at below market price. This makes self-building more affordable and supports vibrant rural communities.

What’s Changing?

Under Delivering Homes, Building Communities, the scheme will be expanded and improved:

  • Local authorities will service sites and enable the construction of clusters of homes near towns.
  • These developments will include:
    • Affordable homes
    • Self-build options
    • Social housing
  • The goal is to create mixed-tenure communities with the right mix of housing types.

Support for Small Builders

The expanded scheme will also open opportunities for small and medium-sized homebuilders (SMEs) who have suitable land but face challenges with funding or infrastructure.
