Statistics Dashboard
The Housing for All Statistics Dashboard contains a collection of datasets relating to the housing sector. The aim of the Statistics Dashboard is to bring together data which indicates trends in housing supply and affordability. These datasets are updated on a monthly and quarterly basis. More information on each dataset can be found in the sections below.
Housing for All Quarterly Statistics Report
The Housing for All Quarterly Statistics Report contains a collection of datasets relevant to the housing sector. This report is published quarterly alongside the Housing for All Quarterly Progress reports and provides an overview of the Irish housing sector through a number of key metrics.
New Dwelling Completions
New Dwelling Completions data is compiled by the Central Statistics Office. The primary data source used for the New Dwellings Completions series is the ESB Networks new domestic connections dataset, where the date that the connection is energised determines the date of completion. New Dwellings Completions data is reflected as rolling 12 month totals. The data is updated quarterly.
Planning Permissions
Planning Permissions data is compiled by the Central Statistics Office (CSO). It is compiled from data provided by 34 local authorities and An Bord Pleanála. The purpose of the CSO Planning Permissions Statistics is to provide a short-term indicator on construction. It aims to provide data enabling some prediction of or insight into the amount of building activity about to take place in the State. Planning Permissions data is reflected as rolling 12 month totals. The data is updated quarterly.
Commencement Notices
Commencement Notice data is compiled by the Local Government Management Agency through the Building Control Management System. A Commencement Notice is a notification to a Building Control Authority that a person intends to carry out either works or a ‘material change of use’ to which the Building Regulations apply. The Department cleans and collates the data before publishing it. Commencement Notices data is reflected as rolling 12 month totals. The data is updated monthly.
HomeBond Registrations
Homebond registrations are compiled by HomeBond. HomeBond provides warranties on new homes that typically cover any major structural defects over a ten year period. Registrations are normally issued one month before work commences on the site. HomeBond registrations data is reflected as rolling 12-month totals. The data is updated monthly.
Residential Property Price Index
The Residential Property Price Index (RPPI) is published by the Central Statistics Office. It is designed to measure the change in the average level of prices paid by households for residential properties sold in Ireland. The principal data source is Stamp Duty returns made to the Revenue Commissioners. The Statistics Dashboard contains information on price changes, mean and median sale prices and transaction volumes. RRPI data is published on a monthly basis.
RTB Rent Index
The Residential Tenancies Board (RTB) Rent Index is compiled by the RTB, in conjunction with the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI). The Rent Index is based on the RTB’s national register of tenancies. The RTB publish rental data on a quarterly basis with information on standardised average rent and a rental index.
