Investing in Rural Development

The Rural Development Investment Programme funds projects that make towns and villages more attractive and vibrant places to live, work, and visit. It focuses on:

  • Economic and social regeneration
  • Community facilities
  • Recreational and outdoor amenities

Funding

In 2025, more than €200 million will be provided through schemes such as:

  • Town and Village Renewal Scheme (TVRS)
  • Rural Regeneration and Development Fund (RRDF)
  • LEADER Programme
  • Local Improvement Scheme
  • Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme

Town Centre First Heritage Revival Scheme (THRIVE)

  • Co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
  • Helps local authorities and communities transform vacant or derelict heritage buildings into vibrant spaces through renovation and adaptive reuse.

To create town centres that are lively, sustainable, and attractive, serving as key hubs for:

  • Economic activity
  • Social and cultural life
  • Recreation
