NDP Sectoral Investment Plan: Water Services and Water Quality

The Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage has today published the Sectoral Plan for Water Services and Water Quality, which sets out the annual capital allocations under the revised National Development Plan (NDP) for the Water Sector. The plan outlines how the record investment of €12.2 billion for the water sector will be spent over the next five years.

Over 95% of the funding (€11.7bn) under the revised NDP allocation is earmarked for Uisce Éireann, to support the delivery of a wide range of projects in our cities and regions to deliver the additional water services capacity required for the new housing targets while prioritising public health and safeguarding the environment.

€230 million will be invested in rural water infrastructure, which is of vital importance in underpinning the provision of safe and secure water services to rural areas that do not have access to Uisce Éireann services. The NDP review also allocated €306 million investment to restore and improve water quality in rivers, lakes and coastal waters.
