Providing Quality Accommodation in the Private Rental Sector

Everyone should have access to a safe, good-quality home. Local authorities inspect private rented properties to make sure they meet standards for safety and habitability.

What’s Being Done

  • Regular inspections: Local authorities aim to inspect 25% of private rented homes each year.
  • Enforcement: Strong inspection and compliance processes ensure landlords meet legal standards.
  • Awareness: Both landlords and tenants will be informed about rental standards and inspection requirements.

Energy Efficiency

The Government will look at ways to encourage landlords to improve energy efficiency in rental properties.

Tax Support for Upgrades

To help upgrade rental homes, the income tax deduction for small landlords who retrofit their properties has been extended until 2028.
