Refurbishment and Re-use

Bringing vacant and derelict properties back into use is a key part of revitalising communities. Existing measures under Housing for All have already delivered much-needed homes, and these will be strengthened and expanded under this plan.

Addressing Defective Homes

Some homes, duplexes, and apartments were built with defective materials or structural flaws, affecting homeowners, renters, and communities. Fixing these legacy issues is a Government priority, and work will continue with owners and management companies to resolve them.

Our Commitment

Through Delivering Homes, Building Communities, the Government will:

  • Improve and expand schemes that refurbish vacant and derelict homes.
  • Regenerate social housing and remediate defective homes.
  • Provide homes close to local services and amenities.

These actions will help families and individuals become part of revitalised, thriving communities.
