Rural Safety Plan
The Rural Safety Plan 2025-2027 has been developed by the Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration, in conjunction the National Rural Safety Forum, and delivers on a Programme for Government commitment.
The National Rural Safety Forum’s goal is to make communities across Ireland safer places to live. The Forum brings together a range of agencies and organisations who have an interest and ability in reducing crime in rural Ireland.
To achieve the Forum’s goal of safe communities across Ireland it is vital that communities, and groups invested in the safety of communities, work together. This plan recognises the need for an all-of-government and cross-society approach to community safety.
Through sharing expertise, experiences, and knowledge, the Forum and its members will strive to make our communities safer places to live, work in, and enjoy.
The Plan builds on the first Rural Safety Plan, which covered 2022-2024. Following an analysis of the 2022-2024 Plan and engagement with the Forum, 4 main priority areas were identified. They are:
- Community Safety & Engagement
- Property Crime
- Roads Policing
- Animal & Wildlife Crime
Under these Pillars, member organisations of the Forum and relevant stakeholders have committed to 18 actions which will be achieved through 53 sub-actions.
The Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration will support the Forum’s implementation of the Plan so that we can continue to build safe communities across rural Ireland.
