Deportation and removal processes are an essential part of any immigration system.
Following an unsuccessful application for international protection an applicant is no longer entitled to remain in the State.
Those who do not have a legal right to remain in this country must leave.
Many people leave the State voluntarily and others are assisted to return to their own country by the Department of Justice and other organisations, such as the International Organization for Migration, part of the United Nations.
Where a person does not voluntarily return to their own country, the deportation order may be enforced. The Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) has operational responsibility for enforcing deportation orders.
