Governance and Accountability

Garda Division is responsible for the following matters:

1. The resourcing of the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC), the independent body which investigates complaints concerning the conduct of members of the Garda Síochána. See further information on GSOC.

2. Supporting the work of the Garda Síochána Inspectorate (GSI), which examines the use of resources provided to the Garda Síochána. See further information on the GSI.

3. Implementing and supporting reforms in the Garda Síochána.

4. Managing the department's role in the performance management framework of the Garda Síochána including the development of Policing Priorities Strategy Statements and Policing Plans for the Garda Síochána.

5. Monitoring the progress on cases taken against the Garda Síochána.

6. Management of inquiries, historic and current, concerning Garda related matters including:

• the Disclosures Tribunal
• the MacLochlainn Commission of Investigation
• the O'Higgins Commission of Investigation
• the Independent Review Mechanism
• Morris Tribunal
• Dean Lyons Commission of Investigation
• the Inquiry pursuant to the Dublin Police Act 1924 in the case of Brian Rossiter
