Criminal Justice (Burglary of Dwellings) Act 2016

The Criminal Justice (Burglary of Dwellings) Act 2016 was enacted when signed by the President on the 24 December 2015.

The Act provides that in bail applications, previous convictions for domestic burglary coupled with pending charges or recent convictions shall be considered as evidence that an accused person is likely to commit further domestic burglaries.

The Act will also require a court to impose consecutive sentences where it decides to impose custodial sentences for multiple burglary offences committed within a 12 month window.
