On Tuesday 7 November the Minister of State for Law Reform James Browne opened the annual Youth Diversion Project Conference at Croke Park.
The Conference brought together hundreds of Youth Justice workers from across the country who work in Youth Diversion Projects (YDPs), as well as Juvenile Liaison Officers (GardaĂ), representatives from youth justice focused NGOs, academics and officials from the Department of Justice.
Speaking at the conference, Minister Browne announced that the Department of Justice will fund the registration of YDP service users for the Gaisce programme, the President’s Award, which helps young people develop their own skills, self-confidence and resilience, and provides a framework for young people to contribute positively to their community through volunteering or social work.
