Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) acts as the strategic advisor to Government on digital government including through attendance at the Digital Senior Officials Group. OGCIO plays a leadership role in digital service delivery and innovation initiatives working in collaboration with and providing advice to public bodies.
OGCIO leads on ICT/digital/data and AI-related strategy developments which address the national digital and AI strategy, Digital Ireland. OGCIO acts as advisor and technical implementation and delivery partner to the Public Service, providing a range of Government as a Platform and Build to Share services, including Government Networks, national low latency platform, managed desktop, government private cloud, government data centre and center of excellence for analytics and AI, AI Advisory Unit, applications suite and the gov.ie and Ireland.ie websites.
OGCIO also has an oversight and approval role in respect of digital and ICT-related initiatives proposed by public bodies; sits on the Strategy and Reform Committee of the HSE Board, the LGMA’s ICT Committee as well a Government Emergency Response Committees; and leads on ICT professionalisation for the Civil Service. OGCIO also represents Ireland at EU and OECD Government CIO forums. Finally, OGCIO leads on the Government’s GovTech initiative; and engages with industry, representative bodies and academia to further the digital agenda.
