Cloud Computing Guidance and Advice
Government recognises the important role of Cloud Computing, in particular as it supports Artificial Intelligence and other advanced and emerging technologies. The Department, through the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer and the Office of Government Procurement, has published updated guidance on cloud computing to support the Public Service as its works to deliver public service transformation strategy through Better Public Services.
Cloud Computing Advice Note 2025 Update
The purpose of the Cloud Computing Advice Note is to help public service organisations understand matters to consider relating to cloud computing services as they continue to decide how and where to process their data holdings and workloads. It builds on the Note issued in October 2019 and much of the advice from then still applies. The updated Note recognises the developments in the technology, policy and legislative environments as well as some related matters that have emerged since.
Cloud Services Procurement Guidance Note 2025 Update
The Cloud Services Procurement Guidance Note 2025 is intended to provide high-level information and guidance to public service organisations who are considering the procurement of Cloud Services. It complements and should be read in conjunction with the OGCIO Cloud Computing Advice Note referenced above. Public sector organisations can use the guidance note as a useful, easy-reference toolkit to assist them when preparing tender documentation for cloud services, in particular the contractual and commercial provisions.
This updated guidance replaces OGP’s previous guidance issued in February 2021. It helps Public sector organisations to unlock the benefits in cloud services through tendering in an informed manner and in compliance with public procurement regulations.
The Note includes a Sample Contract for public service organisations to review in the context of their own cloud services procurements. Also included is an updated Contractual and Commercial Checklist, which Public sector organisations can use to assist them when considering the procurement of cloud services and when preparing tender documentation.
