Minister Calleary announces appointment of three new Board members to the Board of Pobal

Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary TD, has today (Tuesday, 30th September 2025) received the approval from government for the appointment of three new members to the board of Pobal.

Pobal is a not-for-profit organisation that works on behalf of Government to support communities and local agencies towards achieving social inclusion and development.

Minister Calleary announced the appointment of Mr. Paul Rogers, Mr. Vincent Keenan and Mr. Michael Heaney as ordinary members to the board of Pobal. The board members have been selected for this role following a State boards appointment process, which is managed by the Public Appointments Service.

Today’s appointments bring to 16 the number of members on the board, made up of eight men and eight women.

Making the announcement, Minister Calleary said:

“Pobal work on behalf of Government and provides support to several government departments by managing and overseeing a variety of programmes which assist communities and local agencies in their work to achieve social inclusion and support community development.

“I want to thank everyone who took the time to apply to sit on the board of Pobal. I am delighted to welcome the appointment of three new board members who bring a range of experience and expertise to their role.

“I would also like to thank the outgoing board members for their significant contributions, dedication and commitment. I wish them well in the future.

“I have no doubt that the board of Pobal will continue to make a valuable contribution to communities across the country.”

  • Pobal works in the areas of social inclusion, early childhood care and education, local and community development, peace and reconciliation, equality, labour market supports, and education and training. Some of the groups supported by Government through Pobal include the long term unemployed, young people, farmers / fishermen, families, Travellers, older people and ex-prisoners.
